Meet Mae…

Senator Mae Beavers and her family.

Senator Mae Beavers is a proud and loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She began her public service as a Wilson County Commissioner from 1990-1994 and represented West Wilson County in the Tennessee State House of Representatives from 1994-2002. She was elected to the Tennessee State Senate in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006 and 2010.

“I’m proud of what we have been able to accomplish in the State Legislature over the past eight years, and in the Senate Judiciary Committee in the past four. I am looking forward to what we will be able to accomplish in the next four years with a Republican Governor, and Republican majorities in the Senate and the House.”

While serving on the County Commission, Beavers introduced and the county commission passed the first financial management act in the history of the county. Beavers served as the first chairman of the Finance Committee under that act, and because of the new financial structure and oversight, the county was able to go four years without raising county property taxes even while building new schools.

Senator Beavers has a Bachelor of Science degree from Trevecca Nazarene University. Before retiring, she worked as a court reporter, paralegal, and financial advisor.

In the Tennessee Legislature she was a leader in the fight to stop the passage of a state income tax. Since being elected to the State Senate, she has taken a leadership role, serving since 2006 as the Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee (the first female and non-attorney to do so in recent history).

Senator Beavers looks forward to continuing to spread her message of economic responsibility and prosperity over these next few years in the Senate, as well as ensuring that Tennessee’s Judiciary stays true to the Constitution and operates in a fair and efficient manner.  Finally, she looks forward to working with Governor Bill Haslam and the Democrat and Republican leaders in the state legislature to ensure that Tennessee is a national leader in terms of education and job growth.
